Not All Cabretta Is Created Equal: The Hidden Truth Behind Golf Gloves
Almost every glove on the shelf says “cabretta leather.” But here’s what most golfers don’t know:
“Cabretta” just means it came from a certain kind of sheep. It says nothing about how that leather was processed, how thick it is, or what grade it meets.
At Circle 15, we use only Grade A cabretta leather—a premium cut that no other brand is using. Why? Because it's more expensive, harder to source, and most companies would rather cut corners.
But the difference? You’ll feel it in every swing.
What Makes Grade A Leather Different?
Just like diamonds or beef, leather is graded based on quality. Grade A is the top—tight grain, no blemishes, consistent thickness, and strong fiber structure. That’s what makes it:
-
More durable
-
More resistant to stretching and cracking
-
Able to maintain its feel and shape over many rounds
Lower grades (like B or C) may still technically be “cabretta,” but they often:
-
Come from weaker parts of the hide
-
Require more chemical treatment to feel soft
-
Wear out much faster
In other words: same label, completely different glove.
Why Thickness Matters
Most golf gloves are made with leather around 0.40–0.45mm thick. That sounds good for feel—but it’s not great for performance.
Circle 15 gloves use 0.55mm cabretta leather, taken from the strongest, center portion of the hide. That slight increase in thickness does 3 important things:
-
Improves durability without sacrificing feel
-
Resists tearing and over-stretching, even in sweaty conditions
-
Breaks in over time, instead of breaking down
It’s a glove built to last more than just a few rounds.
Why Most Brands Don’t Use Grade A
Grade A cabretta leather is hard to come by. It’s expensive. It requires slower, more selective sourcing. And most brands—especially mass-market ones—don’t want to pay the premium.
We do.
In fact, our factory tells us Circle 15 is the only glove brand currently using Grade A cabretta. We chose it because we’re not trying to be the cheapest glove. We’re trying to be the best.
Feel It For Yourself
Premium leather isn’t just a buzzword. When you put on a Circle 15 glove, you’ll feel the difference immediately. More grip. More structure. And more consistency every time you tee it up.
Most brands use cabretta in name only. We use it as a standard of quality.
